Bluffton Oyster Company

Bluffton Oyster Company is run by Larry and Tina Toomer from the shucking house at 63 Wharf Street in Old Town Bluffton, on a site the company's own history page says it has occupied longer than any other oyster house in South Carolina. Larry Toomer's grandfather, Simpson V. Toomer, Sr., opened the Hilton Head Packing Company in 1913, and the current concrete-block building on the property dates to 1954; in 1999 the state recognized the business as one of South Carolina's ten oldest continuously operating companies.

Catering centers on Lowcountry staples: oyster roasts, low-country boils, crab boils, barbecues, and fish fries, plus grilled steak, burgers, and hot dogs, with menus customized by group size. A low-country boil "to go" - fresh local shrimp, kielbasa, new potatoes, and corn - requires a minimum of 10 guests. The company has catered private parties and informal gatherings, including weddings, throughout the Lowcountry for more than a dozen years under its current catering operation.

The business is based in Bluffton and serves groups from small private parties up to more than 1,000 guests. No per-person pricing or a dollar food-and-beverage minimum is published; couples call the Wharf Street location directly to arrange a menu and quote.
