About
Vicki and Kari Alvaro run Sweet Girlz Bakery & Cafe, a storefront on Highway 17 South in North Myrtle Beach. It is a working neighbourhood bakery first, with a full breakfast and lunch service and a case of from-scratch baked goods, and a custom cake shop second.
Custom ordering covers weddings, bridal showers and birthdays. That matters on the Grand Strand, where a large share of weddings are small destination affairs booked by couples who are not in town to sit through a series of tastings. A bakery with a counter you can walk into, a phone someone answers and a case you can see is a different proposition from a studio that works by appointment only.
The cake work in their gallery runs to buttercream flowers, drip finishes and decorated cupcake sets rather than heavily sculpted fondant. Colour is used freely. Couples after a very restrained, editorial-looking cake should look at the gallery first and decide whether the house style suits them.
No prices are published. Custom cakes are quoted on the design, so call the shop or go in.
