About

The Gadsden House

Christopher Gadsden built this Federal-style manor on East Bay Street in 1798 as a wedding gift for his son, and it stayed in the Gadsden family for generations. A 2015 restoration turned the house and grounds into a private event venue run by King Street Hospitality Group, keeping the original heart pine floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, fireplaces, and crystal chandeliers across four parlor rooms.

The property layers indoor and outdoor spaces: three courtyards surfaced in bluestone, Charleston brick, and oyster tabby, planted with magnolias, crepe myrtles, and palms; double piazzas with gas lanterns and haint-blue ceilings; and parlor floors wired with a sound system and adaptive climate control. Catering and bar service come in house from King Street Hospitality Group's culinary team, rental includes a furnished bridal suite and groom's quarters, and custom tenting keeps the courtyards usable rain or shine.

On-site ceremonies with receptions handle up to 180 guests; reception-only events reach 250 stationed or 300 for a cocktail party without a dance floor, and indoor ceremonies are capped at 80. The Ansonborough address sits a few blocks from the waterfront and the market district. Published rental rates run from $2,500 for an off-season weekday to $7,500 for a peak-season Saturday.
