Southern Couture Makeup

Southern Couture Makeup started in 2015 as an on-site makeup company and has since added a salon in Greenville, so a couple can be seen either way: the team travels to a house, hotel, short-let or the bridal suite at a venue, or the party comes to them.

The portfolio is the reason to look. It is dominated by side-by-side pairs of the same face, eyes open and eyes closed, which is how a makeup artist actually shows work: it lets you judge the eye, the skin finish and the edge of the blend rather than the photographer's light. Hair is shown the same way, from behind, so the back of a chignon or a braided half-up is legible instead of implied.

The house look is warm and unheavy. Skin is left with visible texture, eyes are defined but not graphic, and the hair leans undone rather than lacquered. It reads well in daylight, which is what most Upstate ceremonies are shot in.

Alongside weddings they run everyday salon services and makeup classes, which is worth knowing if a bride wants to be taught to do her own touch-ups for the evening.
