Hamby Catering & Events

Hamby Catering & Events began in 1979 when Fran and Tom Hamby helped friends plan a daughter's wedding reception and turned it into a business, opening their first Charleston storefront in 1988. Since 2017 the company has been led by second-generation owners Candice Culbertson and her father Wayne Culbertson, and Hamby describes itself as the oldest locally owned and operated catering company in Charleston. The company has been named Charleston's Best Caterer by Post and Courier readers nine times and has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings.

For weddings, Hamby handles guest counts from 30 to more than 300 and offers passed hors d'oeuvres, chef-attended stations, plated dinners, late-night bites, and its own Bar Hamby beverage service, along with rentals and full event staffing. The company also runs The Rutledge Room, a 3,000-square-foot flagship venue that launched in fall 2023, and has catered weddings at Legare Waring House, Boone Hall, Hibernian Hall, the Gibbes Museum, and Atalaya Castle in Beaufort. It also coordinates wedding-weekend events such as rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, and farewell brunches.

Hamby is based on St. Andrews Boulevard in Charleston and serves weddings across the Charleston and Lowcountry area. Its retail Market location publishes delivery minimums of $300 (Monday–Thursday) and $600 (Friday–Saturday) with delivery fees starting at $90, but those figures apply to off-premise grab-and-go orders rather than full-service wedding catering; no wedding per-person rate or event minimum is published on the site.
