Wavering Place

Lisa Boykin Adams came to Wavering Place with a background in art, architecture, historic preservation, and hospitality design, and works as its creative director; she and her husband Weston have been the property's stewards for more than a decade, with ongoing preservation work a stated part of what the place is. What that produces, a short drive from downtown Columbia near Eastover, is a homestead that reads as historic without being frozen.

The Main House and its columns anchor most of the photography. Green Tree Pavilion is the covered space — open-air on the sides, with interior rooms, changing areas, and a groomsmen's room off the back porch. The Kitchen House is held for weddings and contains the bridal suite. Behind the house, the Back Lawn, Green Tree Lawn, and Far Lawn are open ground for tents and oversized dance floors, and the Formal Garden, a legacy of the family's Uncle Julian planted with stewartia, ferns, and narcissus, suits cocktail hours, small ceremonies, and portraits.

Catering comes from three approved partners: Southern Way, Capital City, and Loosh Culinaire. Couples may supply their own alcohol, served by a licensed bar service through the chosen caterer, and a professional coordinator must be on site for the entire event. Booking takes a signed contract and a 50 percent non-refundable deposit.
